The Old Thatch was built circa 1690 and is believed to be the oldest building in the town of Shanklin, having initially being constructed as fisherman's cottages.
Beneath the teashop is a mysterious tunnel that was used by the old-time fishermen, smugglers & pirates to hide their contraband and as a get-a-way when Excise Men came knocking on the door as in those days tourism was not a source of income for the Island.
The Teashop houses itself under three traditional thatched roofs and they are all water-resistant and warm. You will notice there is no guttering and you might have a shower that you did not bargain for!
By 1940, after being used for various other businesses, it was transformed into a B&B for our troops during World War II. Over the years it metamorphosed into the Beautiful Teashop & Magical Fairy Garden you see today.
Several people have seen our resident Lady Ghost, if you see her please remind her she left without settling her Bill!
